Richard started his shipping career in January 2005 working for a NVOCC (Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier) groupage operator in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. In February 2006 Richard moved to the UK where he lived for 2 and a half years, working for the Company’s local partner. He headed up the export routes from the UK to South Africa, India and the Far East.
Moving back to South Africa in September 2008, Richard moved to Cape Town working for the same NVOCC, he was offered a position of Operations Manager. He oversaw the Sea Freight Imports / Exports departments as well as Air Freight department. In September 2009 Richard was transferred to Durban where he took up the role as Route Development Manager handling all Import routes from the East of Africa into South Africa. Traveling to India, China, Singapore and Hong Kong were all part of the position, meeting agents and discussing freight rates, clients and shipping lines were all part of the position.
In June 2016 Richard joined Vallis, managing the company’s new trade assurance services in Southern Africa from the Durban office.
Richard’s interests and hobbies include football, formula 1, cricket, rugby and squash.
