Mike van Vuuren

Mike was born and raised in Zimbabwe. During his schooling, he enjoyed his sports; he played provincial rugby, water polo and squash. After school, he played club/provincial ruby and water polo.

Mike started his career in the IT industry. In 2007, he made the decision to move to the DRC to start a new career within the fuel industry. This is where he joined SAS Fuel as the Lubricants Sales Manager. Within a year, he became the Fuel Depot Manager in Lubumbashi. In 2011, he joined one of Glencore’s mines (Mutanda), where he became the Fuel Operations Superintendent. He assisted with the erection of their fuel depot of 3,000 MT and fire suppression system. He was very involved in community projects, as well as being the captain of one of their Firefighting and Emergency response teams.

In the 9 years of being based in Congo, Mike learnt the local language (Swahili), built some long lasting friendships and gained qualifications in Logistics, Supply Chain and Fuel operations.

Mike joined Vallis in July 2017 as the Country Manager for Tanzania. He hopes to travel more and experience different cultures across the globe.

In his free time, he enjoys fishing, gym, squash, golf and rugby.
