Soybeans are a species of legume, widely grown for its edible bean which has numerous uses. The plant is classed as an oilseed rather than a pulse by the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation. Over 320 million tonnes of soybeans were produced worldwide in 2015. Soybeans produce more protein per acre than almost all other uses of land.
