Stephen was born on 16 July 1976 from Thukuta Village Traditional Authority Nsamala Balaka.
He did his primary education at Mmanga full primary school and his secondary education at Ntaja community secondary school. His highest qualification is a Diploma in Accounting from The Public Accountants Examination Council (PAEC) in Malawi.
He previously worked with Southern Bottlers MW Limited as a salesman and Depot Manager. Later he joined Siku transport as Internal Auditor from 2010 to 2013 before joining Drum Commodities (later Vallis Commodities ltd) the same year as warehouse supervisor. After 3 years he is happily employed as the Malawi Country Administrator.
He is married with three children.
