“This report briefly highlights the history of the Black Sea region as one which is no stranger to conflict. Indeed, it contends that it is the most conflict-prone maritime space in the world, when looking at the number of conflicts that have occurred within the region, since the end of the Cold War. Despite this recent history, the focus of political observation could be said to have been elsewhere, such as the South China Seas or the Suez Canal. The report highlights that this apparent bias, as well as the natural focus on the internal destruction being wrought in Ukraine itself, has no more significance than when contextualised in the implications that are being seen for large regions of Africa, principally the MENA (Middle-East and North Africa) and Greater Horn regions. “
