Kevin was born in Kasama, Zambia (Northern Rhodesia at the time). He went to school in Kasama and then Broken Hill (Kabwe). Having also served his apprenticeship as a Motor Vehicle Technician in Zambia, Kevin considers himself a wholly Zambian product.
In July 1977 Kevin started up a trucking company with his brothers. From the humble beginnings of 3 units, it grew to a fleet of 150 trucks, all running international routes from South Africa to as far north as Uganda.
He retired in 2012 and led a busy life cooking and shopping while his wife Glenys ran her own accounting. They enjoy birdwatching and take every opportunity to disappear into the African bush when they get the chance. Kevin and Glenys have 11 children between them, some adopted, and a further 11 grandchildren with the 12th due to arrive in December. Their children live in Ireland, England, South Africa, Australia and Zambia – so holidays have now become visiting family members.
With Vallis expanding in Zambia, Glenys was approached by Don Oliphant to handle the Payroll and Administration of the Zambian office. This led to the discovery that Kevin too was available for work and a phone call soon followed, offering the chance for Kevin to look after the Ndola operation in Zambia.
