Located in the Horn of Africa, the Democratic Republic of Ethiopia is the most populous landlocked country in the world, with over 102 million inhabitants.
Exports are almost entirely agricultural commodities, with principal crops being coffee, legumes, oilseeds, cereals, potatoes, sugarcane and vegetables.
It is hoped that by the end of 2019, the country will boast two electrified railways lines, connecting Addis Ababa and the Port of Djibouti, and Addis Ababa and the twin cities of Dessie/Kombolcha. The full opening of the lines will positively impact both passenger and freight transportation. Ethiopia’s government is focusing investment in public infrastructure and industrial parks with a view to becoming a hub for light manufacturing in Africa.
In 2018, Vallis Trade Assurance Services (VTAS) conducted its first inspection in Ethiopia. VTAS was nominated as Independent Surveyors for the inspection of fertilisers, taking samples for analysis and confirming quantities in storage.
